I used to really object to the idea of layering, preferring suffering to feeling suffocated under fabric. That was before I realized that layering could include wearing short sleeved sweaters over something long – and my arms don’t have to feel like stuffed sausages! So I’m a wee bit obsessed with this idea. After finishing 2 short sleeved pieces already this year, I’m working on another. This is Bobbie, from the Rowan Colourscape Folk collection by Sarah Hatton.
I’ll be honest… in part I’m making this because I had 4 skeins of Colourscape in Northern lights that needed to be used (and I can’t believe I bought that – this yarn is crazy overpriced IMO.) It is nice to knit with though, and I like it in the double moss stitch. This is a really simple pattern, and it’s going very quickly – since taking that photo I’ve finished the back and part of one front. After this sweater I will be working on something with long sleeves – it will be time! It just doesn’t get cold early here – I usually find that I don’t get any use from my long sleeved sweaters until November at the earliest, so I’m pleased to have found something transitional (other than socks, which I will be starting up again soon) to knit!
I’ve been on a bit of a sock book buying spree, so look for some reviews of those coming soon. I usually don’t buy books of sweater patterns, but for some reason I own every sock book known to man.

I’m wearing my short-sleeved Wicked today with a long-sleeved tee under it and I love it! Although… my classroom is so cold that I don’t ever get to take my jacket off. I always joke that I could wear the same shirt everyday and nobody would ever notice!
Short sleeved sweater are great, I love them too. Your yarn looks gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing more. 🙂

Nice colors. I’m in love with hand knit socks, too. Currently knitting with some Shibui yarn in a pink color but not using a pattern. Wow. Using size zero needles. It’s got a fancy looking lacy leafy 24 stitch wide panel down the front that will continue to the toe. This morning it is about 34 degrees in eastern Washington state on the farm out in the middle of the wheat fields. No short sleeves here! Your blog continues to be my favorite knitting inspiration and helps me to feel connected to other knitters. I don’t know any where I live!
I never do this!! I liked the sweater pattern so much, I went to my LYS, bought the pattern book and the yarn sampled in the Rowan book. I nearly choked when they told me how much it was!! It is my first sweater. (other than one for a baby!)
I’m doing ok till I get to the first decrease. What does it mean to decrease 1 st at each end of next and 2 foll 6th rows. Is that a little obtuse?? I’m not that great a knitter, so I need it spelled out. I cast on 81 stitches, and so far I’ve knit the first 12 rows.
So do I decrease the very next row, or decrease at the next 6th row and then do that two more times?? Why, oh why, can’t they just say it in plain English??
